I was googling some time this week for a particular .NET class and I bumped into . I wonder why it is better than the beta 2 docs .

  • RssBandit version

I use RssBandit as my RSS Reader and recently, I upgraded to their newest version ( I haven't explored the new features but the thing I loved most is its support for Atom feeds. I use it to keep track of the blogs I follow, news and some comics and joke feeds. I wish our local will...

  • MSN Spaces Beta is over

MSN Spaces went final yesterday. One thing I would like it to have though is its support for custom layout for attached pics for blog entries (perhaps it is possible yet I don't know how to do it). Surprised to find out that Yahoo has its equivalent (Yahoo 360) which is currently “by invitation only...

  • Datatable.Merge

John Papa blogs about the new merge feature between two datatables in v2.0. In v1.1, you have to create a dummy dataset as datatable holder since the method is defined only on the dataset class. A very useful feature IMO.

  • logos

I like the way google has been modifying their pages once in a while. I started noticing it during the Olympics. Yesterday, they gave tribute to Van Gogh for his birthday. It is where I also discovered that my brother's birthday (March 22) is World Water Day, I think he does not know this yet.

I'm currently here at an internet cafe and a popup window opened redirecting me to: , excellent hoax they've got back there. Sites like this should be immediately banned... (is this possible?)

  • String WTF

Of all programming operations, I hate String Operations the most. Aside from strings being immutable (which is the primary cause of inefficiency for text-intensive operations), improper use of static methods of the String class can make me dizzy so please follow these two basic rules for strings: Never...

  • Morris Worm History

I stumbled upon the story on the very first worm (Morris Worm) on this article . While I was reading it, I tried to search on the usenet using googlegroups on the said issue back when it was released, you might just as well read some of the posts here . I really found the archive on usenet very useful...

  • Scroll lock and MS Excel

I was using Excel yesterday when I tried to scroll the cells using the arrow keys yet the scrollbars (horizontal and vertical) are the ones moving. I immediately tried F1 to find out the problem (of course it should be a simple setting on/off) but unluckily I cannot find any. Maybe because I'm in a rush...

  • Array of Interfaces

I have this custom layout logic for a custom container control which uses a number of properties defined on an interface implemented by most of our controls. For this implementation, I needed temporary holders of controls which implement the said interface and the need for an array of the said interface...

  • Setting the Default Size for Custom Controls

The ideal way to set the default size for your custom controls is to override the readonly DefaultSize property of the Control class and not set it in your derived control’s constructor. The said method is queried once the control is properly instantiated before setting any of its non-default properties...

  • Rethrowing exceptions, the right way

I have read the Exception Handling Best Practices article in .NET in CodeProject and all this time I thought that rethrowing exceptions is this way:
try { // Some code that throws an exception } catch (Exception ex) { // some code that handles the exception throw ex; }
I...

  • Trust Boundaries

I have read Frans Bouma’s SOA article and this struck me most: An application is hereby defined as a set of code, objects, components, services, layers or tiers that exist within a trust boundary. They trust each other, and have no need to replicate business logic (validation, calculation, manipulation...
