Developer Resources, a must for device manufacturers

POS Devices arrived! We borrowed POS machines and peripherals from a taiwan based manufacturer but has local distributor here in the Philippines. We're in a rush to port the Circulation module of my project in to POS terminals. Basically the requirements:

Support Touch Screen displays
Support LineDisplay devices and Pole Displays
Support POS Receipt printers
Optionally support scanners and magnetic stripper readers

As developer the first thing I did is to look for APIs Documentation and sample applications. As expected the companion disk contains COM objects and VB6 sample programs, samples that does not work, yes all samples does not work! Feeling disgusted, I logged into the manufacturer's website to look for some resources to play on. Too bad, I found nothing but those downloadable PDF manuals.

FYI, IBM has IBM DeveloperWorks, Epson has EpsonExpert, Microsoft has MSDN and Symbol has Mobility Learning Center but this manufacturer do not have any. Perhaps that's why their devices are not so popular in the marketplace.

The last time I checked their site, it was down. ;(

There are devices that did not work with POS for .NET if the manufacturer does not provide/release the ServiceObject compatible with it.

As of now I have seen EPSON devices works with POS.Net. A managed SDK is also available for dowload for registered users at www.EpsonExpert.com website. I believe IBM and Symbol have these also.

Others, I dont know yet.

Thanks in advance!
