It's been a while since I've been to devpinoy.org The only thing that drew me back was a twitter post by Keith Rull. I thought to myself that I haven't been on devpinoy in a while, I wonder how everyone is doing.
Almost 3 1/2 years ago I moved from warm and sunny Charleston, South Carolina to a city call Pyeongtaek, South Korea (about 50 miles south of Seoul). It takes a good hour and 20 minutes on a low traffic day. I don't know how to explain South Korea if you haven't been here, but it is definitely different than any other place I have been. Korean people are nice and have a different culture that we are used to in the U.S. Koreans love technology and if you haven't noticed lately, taking over most of the major electronics and automobile business in America. Would you believe LG, Samsung, KIA and Hyundai are some of the notable Korean companies?
I brought over my wife and 3 kids, now we are expecting two more.
I still develop on Windows doing .NET Framework applications. The latest release is a CMS for 4 Army installations.
One can be found here: http://humphreys.korea.army.mil, the rest will be or is on the same system. I will help them migrate their data over.
I also do a few desktop apps here and there.
I don't develop as a hobby or side cash anymore. I spend more time with the family playing video games, sports or whatever is good at the time.
I use mostly compute Ubuntu Linux and Mac OSX as my home computers, but Windows for mostly at work.
I don't have the passion as I once did, but mostly it is just a job to make money to do stuff with the family, which is more important to me.
Other than that, it is no telling how long we will be here or how long it will be before we go back.
We are so far enjoying our time here, and we also miss our family back in the states.
So if you guys make a trip up to Seoul, shoot me an email. I would be happy to tell you some cool stuff to see and do.
