ATTENTION: I've decided to put the upgrade on hold due to a compatibility issue of our server environment with the latest CS installer package. CS 2008 now requires SQL Server 2005 as the backend DB but our database server currenlty has SQL Server 2000 installed on it. I'll resume the upgrade once I figure out when Telligent is releasing a patch to the schema compatibility issue. For now, we will continue to use the old version of CS while waiting for the said patch. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to post them on our forums and I'll answer them as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience and support guys! I'll let you know as soon as this is resolved. - Keith Rull

DevCast : ADO.NET Part 2 - Passing Parameters To Your SQL Statements

In part 2 of our Back To The Basics Series, Keith discusses how to pass parameters to your inline SQL Statements, read a connection string from the web.config and the use of a static class for utilities. He also refactored(a little bit) our original solution to make the code more manageable.

*note: i'm still shaky.. still learning... hopefully next time I could make a better demo :) again, comments are welcome!

Nice devcast! Maybe next time you should try to mention also the meaning of terms like refactoring. It could easily puzzle a beginner. Also, it wasn't mentioned where you could get the refactoring tool you mentioned in the tutorial(or is it?). Overall though, it's good and I understood it clearly. I'll be watching this again.

BTW, it seems like camstudio is so slow... I get horrific frame drop when I capture on a high resolution (1024 x 768). Is there a way around this? Or is camtasia simply a lot better. Thanks!

Thanks Lamia! I'm striving to be better :) Hopefully i get better and better as we continue with this demos.

Don't use 1024 x768. The bigger the screen size, the bigger memory it uses.. usually 800x600 is enough. Also try using a different codec.. codecs also help with the compression of the video.. others are good but alot of the free codecs are usually bad..

the Refactor Pro! tool is from DevExpress.com..

Thanks! That was on my mind but I wanted to be sure. Hmmm... I wonder what I can make for Java. Hmmm...

hi keith, just add a note that the filtering query is sql injection prone

Hi Adonhis

Starting dot net is not that hard you just have to spend some time reading Articles, Books Etc and get your self any of the following C# or VB Express 2005 and start coding. Dont forget to review your OOP.

and follow on Keiths series....
