ATTENTION: I've decided to put the upgrade on hold due to a compatibility issue of our server environment with the latest CS installer package. CS 2008 now requires SQL Server 2005 as the backend DB but our database server currenlty has SQL Server 2000 installed on it. I'll resume the upgrade once I figure out when Telligent is releasing a patch to the schema compatibility issue. For now, we will continue to use the old version of CS while waiting for the said patch. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to post them on our forums and I'll answer them as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience and support guys! I'll let you know as soon as this is resolved. - Keith Rull

KeithRull.com is down... and so was I!

My website went down last saturday... keithrull.com is down.. its been more than 4 days already and i still cant restore my files... because my crazy webhost(dont signup with this guys! no uptime guarantee! #4$+$rD5!! freakin microsoft referral!) doesnt have a working backup of my site. Even the freakin tech support guys are making me nuts... They are all clueless on what do do...

The story was that the server went down last saturday... and together with it the backups? WHAT??? how could that be? i dont want to jump into conclusion on how their network and backups are setup but it seems to me(and i think its true!) that the backups reside on the same machine. NICE ARCHITECHTURE!! and their emergency backup procedure is tell all their customers that everything would be back to normal as coon as they figure out whats wrong... normal meaning factory normal.. like new... like wipe clean... like empty.. like null... like void.. like nothing... like my site :(

pretty pretty sad.

It is pretty irritating considering the number of post, codes, files and podcast that are stored there. A mundane task to restore all of it...

I think website downtime is fast becoming a trend. Even the trusty(??) webhost4life guys are giving me a headache too(7 support tickets in the past 4 months). Hope this change soon since i have been already contemplating on signing up for my own T1 connection and buying my own dedicated server(gee! isn't this too much??).

I think this experience taught me a lesson... never trust the backup plan of your webhost! which i will always keep in mind! definetely.

I guess i need to startover again :( which is pretty sad since i already have a gazillion of trackbacks, comments and referrals running thru that sites veins(including the comment spam ofcourse!).

Oh well! Time to upgrade! DasBlog 1.8 here i come!!!

btw. i do backups on devpinoy once a month(which i should have also done to my site..).. i'll probably up it a notch to 3 a month so theres no need to worry :)

Sorry you had that unpleasant experience.

The good part is, you posted the details, so we (for example, I’m about to sign-up an account to webhost4life, now I changed my mind) can avoid the same tragedy.

Thanks, and hopefully you can regain your site in quicker time.

webhost4life is fine. just dont run high pooling applications like community server. but i think they are currently addressing this issue(hopefully its true.) serverintellect is a good company but they are pretty expensive. blazernetwork works like a charm. my selda6.org website runs on it(which was what devpinoy.org became) i havent had any problems with them..  not even once! oh! ixwebhosting looks pretty impressive but i need to do a little bit more research about them.
